Recycling Assistance at the FNSB Central Recycling Facility

Green Star of Interior Alaska operates the Fairbanks North Star Borough Central Recycling Facility. This is where FNSB residents can bring paper, cardboard, aluminum beverage containers, plastics #1 & #2 bottles & jugs, household batteries, and electronics for recycling.

It helps to have a friendly face to greet recyclers and help clarify how to sort items properly. We are looking for volunteers to assist our staff with greeting, sorting, and organizing recyclables at the Central Recycling Facility.

Volunteering at the FNSB Central Recycling Facility is a great way to get direclt involved with recycling, learn behind the scenes fun facts, and interact with the Fairbansk community.

Let us know your availability for volunteering at the FNSB Central Recycling Facility here.

Electronics Recycling

Green Star needs your help with processing the recyclables collected by the Borough at the Central Recycling Facility. Volunteers help us with some of these tasks:

  • Cutting cords off devices and sorting them
  • Unloading electronics from the borough’s shipments
  • Sorting and packaging electronics to prepare them for shipment
  • Dismantling and destroying computer hard drives
  • Sorting and preparing batteries for shipment
  • Testing and fixing computers and parts for resale

We host volunteer days every Saturday from noon to 4 PM. We can also schedule volunteer shifts from 10 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday by appointment.

To sign up, call (907) 452-4152 or email to schedule a time to come by and help.

Training is provided onsite. All volunteer shifts are conducted at our 2134 Texaco Avenue warehouse.

Event Recycling

Green Star provides recycling services for various events in and around Fairbanks throughout the year, and we rely on volunteers to help us collect and sort recyclable material during these events! We need a large number of volunteers to help make these events successful.

Typically, volunteers help us with setting up portable recycling bins, monitoring and emptying the bins throughout the event, and sorting and preparing recyclables for delivery to the Central Recycling Facility.

If you would like to volunteer for our event recycling the first step is to fill out a volunteer information and release form.  Once we know you are interested and have your contact info we will reach out to let you know about opportunities in which you may be interested.  Thanks so much for being willing to raise your hand!
