Volunteer Opportunities
Interior Alaska Green Star started as a volunteer effort and remains possible only due to the support it receives from many dedicated volunteers. Our volunteers are a diverse group – students, professionals, office workers, retirees. One thing we all have in common is a desire to make a better world by helping our community reduce waste, conserve energy, reuse or recycle as much as possible, and preserve a healthy and beautiful environment.
If you have the desire and a little time and energy we can always use your help!
These are a few of the opportunities we have for volunteers to participate in our programs:
Electronics Recycling Depot
We need volunteers once a month to help us collect electronics for recycling.
- Upcoming dates and more information are listed on the Electronics Recycling page
- Standard shifts are morning (10am-1pm) or afternoon (1pm-4pm) but we can be flexible to fit your schedule!
- Training is provided on site
The following are some of the volunteer tasks at our Electronics Recycling Depot:
- Greeting customers and filling out check-in sheets for devices to be recycled
- Unloading electronics from cars
- Working as cashier
- Sorting and packaging electronics to prepare them for shipment
- Dismantling and destroying computer hard drives
- Sorting and preparing batteries for shipment
Tanana Valley State Fair – Recycling Crew
We need MANY volunteers each August to help us collect recyclables at the Fair. More information about this program is available on the Fair Recycling Program page.
- All volunteers receive a free pass to the Fair for the day they volunteer
Special Projects
In addition to these recycling events, we are always looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with special projects or committees, including:
- Outreach Events (Information Booths)
- Education Projects
- Graphic Design and Marketing
- TV and Radio Production
