Green Star is committed to educating community members of all ages and working with other organizations to increase our impact. This page highlights just a few of our efforts to provide recycling outreach and education for the Fairbanks community.

Fairbanks Recycling Guide

The Fairbanks Recycling Guide is a comprehensive guide to the recycling scene in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. The guide lists all of the materials that can be recycled in the borough and where the materials can be dropped off by residents.

Recycling Curriculum

Our newly updated Earth Day Every Day recycling curriculum integrates waste reduction and recycling education while meeting Alaska’s education standards for grades 6-8. The curriculum is available to download for free. We also have two curriculum kits, which include activity materials, available for educators to check out at the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District’s Library Media Services or at Green Star’s warehouse.

Earth Day Every Day was sponsored and made possible by ALPAR, Fred Meyer Fund, and Kinross Fort Knox.

Information Booths

BoothCome visit us at community events all year long! Green Star hosts an information booth at many local events to share information about how and where to recycle in our community. Some events we participated in during 2019 included:

  • Midnight Sun Festival
  • Golden Days Parade & Street Fair
  • Tanana Valley State Fair
  • UAF Presentation by Dr. Katharine Hayhoe
  • Alaska Cross Content Conference (Anchorage)

Warehouse Tours, Presentations, & Classroom Visits

Don’t want to wait for the next community event to hear from Green Star? Contact us about other outreach opportunities for your group!

There are many ways your group or class can learn more about waste reduction and recycling in Fairbanks. Schedule a tour of our warehouse to learn about how Fairbanksans’ electronics are recycled. Ask us to give a presentation on local opportunities for waste reduction and recycling to your business, club, class, church, or other group!

Green Star can also visit your classroom – if you’re an educator interested in using our curriculum, but want additional support, let us know. Our staff are happy to help you tailor our curriculum to your specific classroom needs. We can also visit your class to demo lessons from the curriculum and talk about how your students can get involved in waste reduction efforts at your school and in their homes!
